How Garbage Can Cleaning Works in Cambridge

We show up on your garbage day after your cans have been emptied, clean them at the curb, and leave. You don’t need to be home. You don’t need to do anything. Your cans just need to be out and accessible.

Our truck uses a high-pressure hot water system to wash, sanitize, and deodorize both your garbage can and your green organics can. We use eco-friendly products — safe for kids, pets, and your driveway. The dirty water is captured in a closed-loop filtration system and reused on the next stop. Nothing goes into the storm drain or down the street.

Both cans are included in the $20. No extras, no surprises.

Why Now?

Your green organics can goes out every single week. That is by design — organic waste is the priority under the new system. But it is also the messiest, most bacteria-prone material going into any residential garbage can. Food scraps, meat packaging, whatever didn’t quite seal in the bag — it settles at the bottom and stays there. The Region of Waterloo is straightforward about this: keeping the cans clean is the homeowner’s responsibility.

By July, with Cambridge summers doing what they do, the lid on that green organics can is going to trap heat and that residue is going to become a real problem. A garden hose isn’t going to fix it at that point. Starting a monthly clean now keeps it from ever getting there.
